fight against climate change and extreme poverty: UN priorities

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, during a meeting with a group of students from the School of Diplomacy and International Relations University of Seton Hall in New Jersey, United States, said that the three main priorities for the international community must addressed are: climate change, the fight against extreme poverty and the need for humanitarian intervention as a result of crises and disasters.
Ban Ki-moon stressed that "climate change science is not an invention, but the science of the facts. Every day, we live and suffer the effects of our actions. " The Secretary General also gave some hope, saying that "for the first time all developed countries and developing countries have agreed on the objective of limiting global temperature rise of two degrees celsius.
on fighting extreme poverty, said that "facts were important progress and today we can cure diseases such as malaria, polio and AIDS, with better results. "
regard to humanitarian cooperation, Ban Ki-moon stressed that the United Nations were the first to intervene after the occurrence of some disaster with the presence of medical, shelter, medical aid, food and water.
Ban Ki-moon has finally said that UN action should focus on building a "greener and sustainable, prosperous and safe for all" and that "our future will depend on how we work together and from what the United Nations may bring. " The Secretary General concluded the meeting saying that "the UN is not only an international organization that promotes dialogue among the various states, but is primarily an instrument of peace, security and development."
