On 18 January 2011, the French Ambassador, Jean-Baptiste Mattei, has appointed Maria Francisca Ize-Charrin the medal of Chevalier of the Legion of Honour of the French Republic.
important to give this award to Maria Francisca Ize - Charrin the French Embassy organized a ceremony which was attended by the Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights United Nations, Kyung-wha Kang, supported by some senior officials of the High Commissioner of former colleagues Maria Francisca. On behalf of the Human Rights Council were also present the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Tomasi, and the ambassadors of Austria, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico and Norway. The ceremony took place in a very intimate and friendly atmosphere in the presence of the immediate family of Maria Francisca Ize-Charrin and representatives of some NGOs with whom she is working, including IIMA and VIDES.

Maria Francisca Ize-Charrin has devoted his life to promoting and protecting human rights as reflected brilliantly invested over thirty years in the service of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. His career embodies the story of the same High Commissioner who, as recalled by the French in his speech of the Insignia, was created following the World Conference on Human Rights held in Vienna in 1993 and which took part in Maria Francisca. The term of the career of Maria Francisca did not mark the end of passion, determination and commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights. In fact, as well emphasized the Ambassador Mattei, MariaFrancisca began his fruitful collaboration with our Institute (IIMA), the same day that ended his long career at the High Commission. Soon after, he began a collaboration with the International VIDES, become more stabile nel 2009 dopo la sua elezione all’interno del Consiglio di Amministrazione. La sua grande passione ha contagiato anche le persone a lei più care. Primo fra tutti il marito Daniel Charrin, che accompagna e sostiene Maria Francisca in questo nuovo percorso e che in poco tempo è divenuto promotore dell’educazione ai diritti umani.
Oltre agli impegni con IIMA e VIDES, Maria Francisca collabora con suo figlio, Jean Benoit, nel portare avanti il centro di ricerca e consulenza Waterlex, che si occupa principalmente di difendere il diritto all’acqua.
Come membri di IIMA e VIDES vogliamo rivolgere a Maria Francisca le nostre più sentite congratulazioni per questo tanto meritato riconoscimento. Per noi è un vero onore poter contare sul suo prezioso contributo e vorremmo ringraziarla perché con semplicità ed umiltà ci accompagna in questa nuova attività di difesa del diritto all’educazione per tutti, un cammino di speranza rivolto a garantire che tutti i bambini e giovani possano accedere ad un sistema educativo di qualità nel quale poter sviluppare le proprie capacità e competenze per poter divenire in futuro uomini e cittadini migliori.
