Il Segretario Generale dell’ONU, Ban Ki-moon, ha affermato che: “la commemorazione riconoscerà i crimini e le atrocità perpetrate nel corso degli ultimi 4 secoli, in cui milioni di Africani furono violentemente sottratti alle loro lands, abused and deprived of their dignity. The train of that period is still present in the families and countries that have lived. The memory will also serve to remind the world the courage of all the slaves, abolitionists and heroes who fought against an oppressive system by putting an end to that practice. "
The new website will be a tool to raise awareness of past mistakes and will serve as a call for action against all forms of contemporary slavery, including debt-bondage, from forced labor, trafficking in women and children, domestic slavery and forced prostitution, including those involving children; servitude ' sex, forced marriages, child labor, child slavery, etc ...
